LCI (Landing Craft Infantry)

LCI

The LCI (Landing Craft Infantry) was the largest American landing vessel to carry infantry without the ability to carry vehicles. The design was less than satisfactory as the infantry was left in a highly exposed position during the landing. LCI 326 was commissioned October 31, 1942 and participated in the invasion of North Africa, Salerno in Italy, the invasion of Normandy and the invasion of Okinawa.
